War-fixers and Slava Ukraini! Fixers in Ukraine for journalists

On the map above you can see the countries where we had inquiries since 1 January 2022. It’s basically Storytailors’ heat-map for job inquiries.

It’s surely not hard to spot how the center of the map has three countries that are coloured in a darker red.

And that’s not only because of the bloodshed that’s taking place these days in Ukraine, but because that’s where journalists from around the world ask for our help.

Towards the end of 2021, when Belarus sent refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraqi Kurdistan at the border with Poland (which, by the way, appear to still be there!), overnight, the number of job requests for Poland grew massively.

Thus we’ve helped reporters go to Poland, towards the border with Belarus, enabling them to tell the story on the ground.

And now it’s happening again: around Ukraine on the map you can spot another two countries that are slightly more red: Poland and Romania.

The whole world is reporting just now from both borders: Poland and Ukraine, Romania and Ukraine. As we type this blog-post we are providing camera crews and fixers in Ukraine to press from Europe, UAE and even Japan.

What’s even more interesting is the huge numbers of reporters who want us to help them get into Ukraine – now, when the Russian invasion in Ukraine has been on for more than 7 days and thousands have already lost their lives.

We are constantly in touch with our local Ukrainian colleagues who refuse to flee their country or homes.

And seeing how eager they are to work during an invasion with international journalists, providing them transportation, translation and sometimes even accommodation, helping the world learn about their true story while also having to defend themselves is inspiring to us.

Ukrainians, we admire you and consider you an inspiration for us all!

We will keep on working every day to provide journalists, media organizations and documentary makers with local fixers, crews and whatever might help us stop this.

Slava Ukraini!

War fixers are just fixers, but they do risk their lives way more than a regular fixer, right? We might say a war-fixer is a slightly braver fixer. And just generally… a Ukrainian fixer.

We never thought 2022 would make us think of such a niche-term for fixers that offer help on the front lines, but here we are doing just that.

If by any chance you are still in Ukraine and want to help journalists tell the invasion story, please fill in this form.

If by any chance you are in Romania, Poland, Moldova or Hungary and can help press tell the refugees stories on your country, please fill in this form.

If you are reading this and are in need of a fixer in any of the above mentioned countries, or basically anywhere in the world, please get in touch with us.

Thank you!
